Parking In Maribor

Maribor is second largest Slovenian city, and it’s informal capital of Styria region, thus many people come daily from all over the region to it for work, school and shopping. State institutions are also located in Maribor, mainly in city centre, so it can get quite busy during work hours, mainly between 7 am to 4 pm.

On street parking long-term parking (Pay and Display):

Paying for on street parking spaces is enforced every work day (Monday - Friday) from 8 am to 5 pm. Parking is free during weekends (Saturday - Sunday) and on all work-free public holidays. You can pay for parking at one of the many parking meters, which accept coins only. After paying, take your receipt and put it on your car’s dashboard.

Maribor is divided in multiple parking zones. Most expensive one is located in the centre of the city, around Maribor Cathedral, on Slomškov trg, where one hour of parking will cost you 1.50€.

Other zones in and around city centre cost 0.80€/hour, some zones that are more distant from the centre will cost you 0.50€/hour.

These parking spots are indicated by signs (on which time when paying for parking is enforced and price for parking is stated) and a white line in front of parking spaces.

If you don’t pay for parking you may get ticketed by city traffic warden. Penalty, if they catch you, is 40€, or 20€ if you pay the bill in 8 days.

You can also get ticket for illegal parking, so be aware for signs that prohibit parking. If your car is obstructing traffic, is parked in handicapped zone or on the sidewalk, it can be towed away. In that case you will have to pay towing expenses and fee for illegal parking. Clamming is also possible, but it’s rarely used.

On street short-term parking (disc parking)

Maribor offers some free parking spots in city to leave your car, for quick errands. Usually parking is free anywhere from 15 to maximum 60 minutes, and you have to leave your parking clock on car’s dashboard, indicating time when you arrived. Time of arrival written on a piece of paper will be good too.

These parking spots are indicated by signs (on which time for how long you can leave your car there is stated) and a blue line in front of parking spaces.

Public car parks:

City of Maribor owns some public car parks, on which you will have to pay minimal 1€ for every beginning hour. These car parks are behind ramp and you pay for parking after you exit the car park. They are located around city centre, quick walk from any major city destination. Ramps are open on weekends (Saturday - Sunday) and on all work-free public holidays, thus parking then is free.

Private car parks:

Private companies operate multiple car parks in Maribor. Prices vary from location to location, most expensive is located under ‘’City center’’ office building, but most of garages and car parks charge around 1 - 1.30€/hour.

Some business, like stores, cafes etc. offer discount on parking in nearby parking garages if you spend money at their establishment, so don’t forget to ask cashier about it.

If you are visiting city’s main hospital, UKC Maribor (University Medical Centre Maribor) it is recommended that you leave your car in one of the two parking garages at the hospital, which are lit, secure and have elevators, but if you really want to, you can enter hospital plot, where you can park right beside main building.

Parking is free for 15 minutes, after that you will pay 1,50€ for every beginning hour.

Free parking:

Biggest free car park in Maribor is located in shopping centre Europark, which is located just opposite from the city centre on the right bank of Drava river. Car park operates only in working hours of the shopping centre and is closed during the night and cannot be accessed.

You can also leave your car for free in front of other big shopping malls and head into city on foot or with public transport but usually parking is possible only when malls are open, so check if parking lot is secured with ramp which will close at night. Be carefull tho, if you will leave your car in front of small stores where parking is allowed for costumers only, because they can call towing and get your car removed, but this occurs rarely. Many free spaces are available in some city districts, but they are all quite far away from city centre, so again you will have to use public transport to get to centre, for which you will pay 1.10€ (or 0.78€ for prepaid card users) in one direction.
